Greetings Everyone,
Wild week, with the elections changing our entire landscape for years to come. Two days after the vote, markets took a beating, led by tech stocks, on news of AI moratoriums, a slowdown in data center buildout, and tech executives facing potential subpoenas. It’s not a surprise: citizens are unhappy with where the buildout is heading, and with executives banking on hyper-growth while the average person can barely pay bills. The people have spoken, and we hope the changes benefit the whole world, even if that sounds romantic.
Today we cover how the AI backlash got subpoena power, plus GitHub repos of the week and AI tools of the day.

The AI Backlash Just Got Subpoena Power
Three days after the midterms, the AI industry is learning what a rejection looks like. Democrats won the House in a landslide and, by most projections, the Senate too. Within hours they were saying what they plan to do with the gavels: haul AI CEOs before Congress, freeze new data centers, and in one case, pause advanced AI development altogether.
The promises came fast
Rep. Greg Casar said AI company CEOs “should be called to testify under oath.” Sen. Ed Markey said tech executives will need “new forests for all of the subpoenas we’ll be printing”. Bernie Sanders posted “National data center moratorium now.” Rep. Yassamin Ansari wrote that the top of the Democratic agenda on day one should be “a pause on advanced AI development, regulation of this out of control industry, and a ban on artificial superintelligence.” Elon Musk replied “It’s a Brave New World.” Ansari answered: “See you soon”.
Why the data center became the villain
Nobody can see a language model. Everyone can see a windowless warehouse the size of a mall going up at the edge of town. Quinnipiac found 65% of Americans oppose an AI data center in their community. Almost $200 billion in projects were delayed or blocked in the first half of this year. On Tuesday, voters sided against data centers in 40 of 41 local ballot measures, according to Ballotpedia, though CNBC’s preliminary count was lower. That is how a national moratorium went from a Sanders talking point to something with a voter base.
Don’t expect a pause
Here is the reality check. Sanders and Rep. Ocasio-Cortez introduced a moratorium bill in March, and most lawmakers in both parties rejected it. President Trump is likely to veto anything that slows AI deployment, and Democrats are split between progressives who want bans and moderates who prefer community benefit deals. I suspect that 2027 will deliver subpoenas, hearings and state rules.
The market already priced the pressure
The Nasdaq fell 5.5% on Thursday, its worst day since April 2025, and Nvidia lost almost $450 billion in value. The selloff hit just before Anthropic’s planned IPO. Reuters reports investors doubt the roadshow can start the week of Nov 9. The WSJ says they are skeptical of a $1.5 trillion valuation, down from the $2 trillion sought last month, but the show may still go on as per Anthropic.
🧰 AI Tools of The Day
Edit your designs, take your calls, run your ads and plug into your stack
Canva Brush - Canva’s first vision-language model for design. It edits the design you already have instead of generating a new image. Restyle a deck, rename headers across 20 pages, or turn a slide into an Instagram post, and every element stays editable.
Phonic-1 - A speech-to-speech voice model that can trigger tool calls while the caller is still talking. It handles 51 languages and switches between them mid-call.
How to use it: Rebuild one inbound-call flow, such as booking or lead intake, in Phonic’s no-code builder. New sign-ups before Nov 30 get $250 in credits.
AgentKit by Scalekit - One MCP gateway that connects your agents to 600+ apps and 30,000+ tools, with per-user OAuth and a log of every call.
How to use it: Give your client-reporting agent a “Virtual MCP Server” with only CRM read and Slack post access, and nothing else.
Synter Canvas - An AI media buyer that builds, launches and optimizes campaigns across Google, Meta, LinkedIn, TikTok, Reddit, Amazon and more, all from Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor.
How to use it: Connect one client’s ad accounts, ask for a cross-platform performance report, then approve the budget shifts it proposes.
🐈⬛ GitHub repos of the week
github.com/D4Vinci/Scrapling · A Python web-scraping framework that combines fast HTTP fetching, stealth browsers, adaptive parsing and Scrapy-style concurrent spiders in one library, with an MCP server for AI agents.
